The WEBTOON-based comedy film My Daughter is a Zombie had 430,000 admissions on its opening day on Wednesday, setting the best box office opening day of the year so far in Korea.
My Daughter is a Zombie surpassed the first-day record of Extreme Job (360,000 admissions when it opened in 2019), which had previously held the record for the highest opening ever for a Korean comedy film. My Daughter is a Zombie also outperformed this year's Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which had 423,000 admissions on its first day when it opened in Korea in May.
Based on the WEBTOON of the same name by creator Yoon-chang Lee, My Daughter is a Zombie tells the story of a father named Jung-hwan (played by Jung-suk Cho) who travels to the seaside village of Eunbong-ri, where his mother Bamsun (played by Jung-eun Lee) lives, to protect his daughter Soo-ah (played by Yu-ri Choi) — who has become the last remaining zombie in the world.
The story of the original webtoon reads:
One year after an unprecedented zombie attack that killed hundreds of thousands, South Korea has finally been declared zombie-free. But Jeonghwan holds a secret: his daughter is the last zombie left on earth. When her cravings are satisfied and her violent tendencies die down, it almost seems like there's hope for her to have a normal life. But how long can he keep Su-ah a secret from everyone else?
